Kollegievejens Skole (EDU-SpNeed)

Kollegievejens Skole is a special needs institution for pupils aged 6-18 years who have a diagnosis within the autistic spectrum. This includes pupils who have difficulty in communication, behaviour, social skills and cognitive ability. Clarity, predictability and structure is important to our pupils. Our methods are based on the principles of TEACCH and all the pedagogical approaches have a developing effect on the pupils (auditive sensory reinforcement, PECS, simultaneous play etc). Classes start every day at 8am and finish at 12.30pm. Afterwards, the pupils attend activities in an 'after-school' centre. Here, they are taught using the same approaches and the centre supports activities and contributions from the school. The staff includes a Principal, Vice-Principal, Co-Manager of the After-School Centre, 26 teachers, 32 educators (trained and untrained) and 3 secretaries.

Denmark - We will, through the project, find ways to prepare the pupils to further understand the tradition in our country with partners from others schools; we will find ways to raise standards and allow pupils to communicate, learn and gain confidence. We expect that working with the project partners will give the pupils a wider prospective in their efforts to try to understand the world they live in by developing new and improved skills and competencies. Staff professional development will be enhanced by sharing practice with staff from other schools with students with special needs.
