Ysgol Maes Dyfan (Special Needs School - EDU-SpNeed)
www.maesdyfan.com
Our school is for pupils aged 3-19 years who have a statement of special educational needs with moderate to severe learning difficulties. Many have associated difficulties such as autism, hearing/visual impairment, ADHD, epilepsy, speech and language difficulties or mobility issues. We have a number of pupils who are looked after and 45% who receive free school meals. All of our pupils are working below their chronological National Curriculum Key Stage and at aged 16, our pupils follow a Welsh Assembly Government initiative 'Learning Pathways'. This enables the pupils to access college courses and work experience placements. Around 85 pupils attend the school with a non-teaching Executive Headteacher and Deputy Head, 11 full time teaching staff and 30 support staff.
This will be a whole school project but work for exchange will be produced by our 11-19 year old pupils.
We are looking to develop the cultural understanding of our staff and pupils, to encourage an understanding of different European cultures and to share good practice between schools and with our European colleagues. The project will develop our pupils' skills in a range of curriculum subjects as well as having an impact on their life skills and wellbeing, developing them into better citizens. Our staff will benefit from the sharing of good practice and developing a better understanding of education systems across Europe.
Merry Christmas to all our European friends - wishing you all Seasons Greetings and a Happy New Year.
